Religious Education News

Religious Education The Religious Education portion of our website is dedicated to the "Catechism Classes" at St. Mary Parish. Once called "CCD" classes for "Confraternity of Christian Doctrine", now more often called "PSR" for "Parish School of Religion", at St. Mary our Catechism program is called "REP" for "Religious Education Program". Talk about alphabet soup huh?

St. Mary Parish offers Religious Education classes for grades Preschool to 9th Grade under the guidance of a Coordinator of Religious Education. Classes take place on Sunday morning and Wednesday evenings during the regular school year. Children in the Religious Education Program typically receive the sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist in 2nd Grade, and the sacrament of Confirmation in 9th Grade. Children who are older and have not received the sacraments attend special formation classes to prepare them for the sacraments.

We encourage parents especially, but all parishioners to discern becoming a catechist in our program. We look for new catechists each year and offer comprehensive catechist training in the fall with certificaton through the Diocese of Lansing.
